Beating the UK brokerage via true arbitrage - £8k -> £98k ($128k) since 21st April
Alright you American autists, here's a gains post from the UK across the pond - listen up because it's pretty incredible, managed to screw over our broker to turn ~£8k into £98k / $128k USD by reading the small print, true u/fuzzyblankeet style.

https://preview.redd.it/9mlup18v0q951.png?width=343&format=png&auto=webp&s=aea1393d304d16063d62d54d30cc5be9b23d937a
Unfortunately, we don't have options trading, commission free robinhood which crashes, or any other US based degeneracy, but instead we British chaps can trade "CFDs" ie. 'contracts-for-difference', which are essentially naked long / short positions with a 10-20% margin (5-10x leveraged), a 'holding cost' and you could theoretically lose more than your initial margin - sounds like true wallstreetbets autism, right? Well grab a lite beer (or whatever you lite alcoholic chaps drink over there) and strap in for this stuff:
So, CMC Markets, a UK based CFD brokerage, wanted to create a West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil 'Spot' product, despite WTI contracts trading in specific monthly expirations which can thus have severe contango effects (as all of you $USO call holders who got screwed know) - this was just a product called "Crude Oil West Texas - Cash", and was pegged to the nearest front-month, but had no expiry date, only a specific holding cost -> already a degenerate idea from their part.
So in early April, just before when the WTI May-20 expiry contract 'rolled' at **negative** $-37, the "WTI Cash" was trading at $15 at the time, but the *next* month June-20 expiry was still $30+ we (I am co-running an account with an ex-Goldman colleague of mine) simultaneously entered into a long position on the "WTI - Cash" product, and went short on the "WTI Jun-20 expiry", a pure convergence play. Sure enough, the June-20 tanked the following week, and we made over £35k, realised profits. But meanwhile the May-20 also tanked, and we were down £28k. But rather than realise this loss, we figured we could just hold it until Oil prices recover, and profit on both legs of the trade.
However, CMC Markets suddenly realised they are going to lose a lot of money with negative oil prices (Interactive Brokers lost $104m, also retards), so they screwed everyone holding the "WTI - Cash" product trading at $8 at the time, and pegged it to the December 2020 expiry trading at $30, with a 'discount factor' to catch up between the two.
https://preview.redd.it/zjjzyahx0q951.png?width=517&format=png&auto=webp&s=9523bab878f06702133631f12c1109081f299f65
Now fellow autists, read the above email and try to figure out what the pure arbitrage is. CMC markets will charge us a 0.61% **per day** holding cost (calculated as the 10x levered value of whatever original margin you put up, so in our case £8k*10x=£80k*0.61% = £500 per day, £1.5k on weekends for extra fun) on our open positions, but also "increase" the position value by 0.61% per day vs. the **previous day's** WTI - Cash value. Got it yet? No? Still retarded? Here's where maths really helps you make tendies:-> If your 'cost' is fixed at 0.61% of your original levered position, but your 'gains' are 0.61% of the previous day's position, then your gains will be ever increasing, whereas your costs are fixed.
So we added some extra £££ (as much as we could justifiably put into a degenerate 10x levered CFD account) and tried to see if it works. Long story short, it does. At this point in July we were making **over £1k per day on a £8k initial position*\* regardless where the WTI Dec-20 fwd moved.
Unfortunately, eventually CMC markets realised what utter retards they were, and closed down the arbitrage loophole, applying the holding costs to the previous day's value. But not before we turned £8k into £98k, less holding costs.
https://preview.redd.it/uh0f8knz0q951.png?width=553&format=png&auto=webp&s=c7e629f72de5aeb4e837ccef44ecae708f058bee
Long story short, puts on $CMCX they're total retards, and given what a startup robinhood / other brokerages are, never assume that only they are the ones taking your tendies away, sometimes you can turn the tables on them!

COSS exchange is ready to resume operations. Please read the following announcement carefully.

https://preview.redd.it/afpkritv1fk41.png?width=3556&format=png&auto=webp&s=9296f8b63636c34729c10d8575a37dcd65e76a6f
https://medium.com/coss-official/update-coss-exchange-relaunch-roadmap-18a5ff7549a3/
Hello everyone.
COSS exchange is ready to resume operations shortly after almost 8 weeks of downtime.
In this update, we discuss the following:

The Downtime

COSS exchange was taken offline on January 7th 2020 with immediate notice to all users. The plan was to begin migration to a white label platform after proceeding with account-level snapshots.
The migration was halted mid-way as COSS entered and finalised acquisition negotiations, followed by audits of the existing technology, user data and wallets.
With the audits completed, the new management decided to do away with the old exchange platform and introduce a much more advanced engine for its users.
This is the platform which goes online this week with many added features including derivatives with up to 100x leverage, as well as an Exchange Swap Engine for instant conversions.

New Management

We apologise for the downtime — unconditionally.
The decision to shut down the exchange was not in our control and we, unfortunately, were handed over a shut exchange. We have done our best to re-enable the exchange for all users quickly and assure you that such missteps will be avoided at all costs in the future.
The new COSS is a group of investors, professional traders, and financial technology specialists. Who strongly believes in the original vision of COSS — a one-stop platform for modern digital assets whose success is dependent on and shared with all its users — a unique approach to decentralised finance.
The idea is in line with the original concept of creating a shared ‘digital economy’ instead of mirroring a system where the traditional institutional lenders and service providers benefit while the people pay fees to use and access their own assets.
The investment group has appointed a board of directors and is currently assessing nominations for the role of CEO.
The board will leave the day-to-day operations to the CEO and their team with a clear mandate — to restore and build COSS the brand for success.
Rune and the previous technology, operations and marketing teams will no longer be involved with COSS. We appreciate their work in the past and wish them all the best for future endeavours.
Satyarth will continue to remain on board with us and support the community management, marketing and PR team.

New Technology Partner

The new management has carefully evaluated several options to ensure COSS has a stable, scalable and continuously improving technology platform.
We have partnered with XHUB — a financial and trading technology company.
The XHUB team has vast experience in working with brokers, hedge funds, and proprietary trading firms.
XHUB maintains one of the largest cryptocurrency liquidity and order routing systems in the industry, and a trading platform which has been exclusively and extensively used in-house by large trading firms.
The XHUB technology team will extend its support to COSS API consumers and encourage them to keep building trading applications for the community. Consumers will have access to extensive historical and real-time market data which will allow them to create advanced strategies supported by back-testing.

Roadmap

A general roadmap of the board’s vision for the immediate future is included below. We remain focused on ensuring that COSS provides a reliable trading platform for retail and professional traders alike.

Q1–2020

Exchange Relaunch
  1. COSS will relaunch the exchange platform and enable full trading on supported pairs
  2. Current COSS account holders will be sent new login credentials via email and an invitation to begin trading

  4. Balance transfers from previous exchange platform are initiated by the account login. This begins the final-phase of the account audit.
  5. Withdrawal of audited portfolios / balances will be available within 48 hrs of the account portfolio transfer
API Release
  1. REST and Websocket access to market data
  2. REST access to account and trade endpoints

  2. Technical support
  3. Budget allocated for development competitions

Q2–2020

Mobile Wallet App (v2) (iOS, Android)
  1. Release of the full-featured wallet/payment and proximity peer to peer payment app
Metaquotes MT5
  1. Release full scale derivative trading platform for Windows, iOS and Android
  2. Enabling:
Regulatory Licensing
  1. Leverage trading will be reduced as the final step for licensing
Vendor and Payments API
  1. Release of web and mobile payment processing for merchants
Roadmap will be updated in the first and third quarter every year, and will cover plans for that period.
Relaunch FAQ
The exchange will be operational on 4th March, 2020.
To adhere to existing anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing and know your customer regulations, existing users will need to complete level-1 KYC. This can be done with a single government-issued photo identity document.
Final phase account audit clearance is subject to KYC approval.
COS token trading will be available on the COS_USD pair. More pairs will be added as trading activity improves.
Maker and taker fees will be set at 0.05% and 0.1% respectively.
Trading fee discount and negative maker fees will be discontinued.
An updated COS holding based fee tier system may be introduced in the future.
The Fee Split Allocation (FSA) dashboard is under development. However, FSA will be tracked and accrue from day one. COS held in private wallets will need to be re-identified and linked to your new user accounts once the dashboard is launched.
We will initiate a delisting procedure for some assets. A complete list of pairs and the withdrawal process for the same will be released at a later date.
Crypto deposits will remain at 0 fees. A fee schedule for crypto withdrawals will be published on the website.
Fiat deposits will be available via Epay and transfers from Epay wallet to COSS will be at 0 fees.
Deposits through credit and debit cards will be introduced at 4% fees.
We will add more fiat options including withdrawals in the coming weeks.
Thank you for all your support and feedback.
We are expecting a rush to access COSS accounts and will complete verification for all applicants as quickly as possible. We apologise for any unforeseen delays during the process. You can reach us on [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) in case you require any further assistance.

Arbitrage, HFT, Quant and Other Automatic Trading Strategies in FX | Finance Magnates

fintech #trading #algotrading #quantitative #quant

Challenges when implementing quant strategies in FX Lack of data availability in foreign exchange trading, when compared to equities, is one of the major obstacles in implementing quant strategies in FX. Since the Forex market is regarded as an over-the-counter (OTC) market and does not transact on a centralized exchange, there is little uniform data available. The FX ECNs only publish approximately 15% of their data while the rest of the market trades “in the dark”.
Only an estimated 6% of the market is covered by good quality data, and algos need to have data, such as volume traded per unit of time, in order to properly slice a large order into smaller pieces. Also, many traders underestimate the cost for quality data. You can get some of the historical tick by tick data dating back to 1992, but it will cost you tens of thousands of dollars. How to implement auto trading strategies on margin FX brokers’ platforms? So is it possible to implement alpha generation algorithms with .....

Forex.com/GAIN Capital

I made a Reddit account just to post this. Do NOT use Forex.com/GAIN Capital. Their customer service is pushy, rude, and have hassled me to fund my account immediately after opening it. They also have technical issues with their systems. I've only had good experiences with one of their reps.
I recall one time I sent an ACH request but never saw the request occur on my bank's end (Goldman). I ended up contacting Forex.com and found out that an error occurred on Forex's end, resulting in the funds never clearing. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue since I could re-send the request but because of their error, they force closed my positions (which proceeded to fly) and shut down my account. This was AFTER I contacted their rep due to concerns about the ACH request not showing up on Goldman's end, and they told me the day before they shut down my account that there would be no issues so long as I had the cash (which I did).
After that, I decided to let bygones be bygones and attempted to reinstate my account. They ignored my support requests until I called them directly, and their rep told me there's nothing they can do since compliance automatically closes accounts, and that compliance's attitude is that "if the individual has account issues, we don't want to do business with them anyways." I would've sued them for their screw up but the amount was too immaterial (~$500) to justify the legal fees/hassle.
Since then, I've swapped to Oanda and their platform and service is VASTLY superior. Not only have they not hassled me about immediate funding, but their spreads don't fluctuate as much, and I've never had deposit issues or have had to deal with annoying reps. I've noticed that since I've swapped, I've been stopped out significantly less frequently. The only time spreads get kind of large is around the daily market reset, but that's standard for non-institutional Forex trading. Given the materially smaller spread volatility despite being a smaller broker, I have a suspicion that Forex.com intentionally creates slightly larger spreads than their liquidity pools would call for to profit off the arbitrage. I have no evidence other than experience, but I'd say I get stopped out about 1/4 as much now that I'm trading with Oanda (I use very tight stops). I hope GAIN Capital's attitude changes since it's cost them quite a bit of spread fees given my active trading and a lot in future business from my dis-recommendation to friends, family, and internet peeps.

Forex platforms for HFT

I'm working on an algorithm which finds arbitrage opportunities. One of the requirements would be that I can execute orders on a very small timescale, say milliseconds or tens of milliseconds at most. Which platforms would be the most ideal for this purpose? Obviously they would have to satisfy a couple of conditions, i.e. no commission per trade, low latency (found this earlier), low execution time etc. I don't know where to start.

Why is Winning a lot of money (e.g. latency arbitrage) bad for Brokers ?

Hello,
I have a question about winning with forex. Why is it bad for the Broker, if someone earns a lot of money from forex trading. I mean actually there are 2 people, one buying and one selling. Then there is a little fee for the broker, so what does it matter for the broker if someone wins a lot of money ? It's not the money of the broker but the money of the 2 people (ask/bid) and the broker should only earn money from the fees/spreads of the trade ?
So I don't understand why latency arbitrage is forbidden in most broker terms.
Sounds unfair to me

Anyone else considering legal action against BitGrail?

Imagine if a regular Forex Broker pulled this kind of stunt. If any of you are considering pursuing this, have you spoken with anyone yet? If so, who? What kinds of responses have you received? Any Europeans interested? Any Italians?
I don't believe BG is under investigation, if this were the case, he wouldn't have alluded to mandatory verification on twitter prior to this. And if they are under investigation, then I'm going to want proof once this is over. I predict BG will continue to not verify users, then sometime after Binance lists XRB, they will roll back the daily cap for unverified users, maybe even with an apology, maybe even saying they were under investigation, but probably without offering proof. By then they will have already made the money through peoples money sitting there, people closing their accounts and being forced to pay fees, possibly arbitrage with binance, etc. Everyone will pull their money off and many will just forget it ever happened. Make no mistake, unless he is under investigation, what he is doing is absolutely, indisputably, illegal. For those of you who do not have money on BG, do not care about your money or regularly serve as other people's doormats, this is not for you. Nobody wants to hear about how you got your money off the site: it doesn't make what he's doing any less wrong or illegal.
Because I refuse to upload my documents at any point going forward, I'm not just going to wait. I'd like to find an attorney that shows an interest or at the very least some action that would scare BG into releasing funds. Even if everything is "fixed" in a month, something can still be done about it after the fact.

Questions on New Fees Policy (Effective 07/02/2018)

Hi Lykke users, administrators, pantarhei, u/richardbolsen
I am a Lykke fan. The Lykke ICO was the first ICO I ever participated in and though my investment was inconsequential in value it was significant. Even as a newcomer to the crypto world I could recognise the potential Lykke showed.
September / October 2016 was a long time ago in crypto years. Growth has been slow but the fans have been patient. Lykke has surprised us and Lykke has disappointed us. Trading volumes have grown and, of late, trading volumes have waned.
While Lykke distinguishes itself from every other crypto exchange, pioneers new roads in fintech and works towards innovations in the future Binance gives the people what they want when they want it. We've heard this one before. Lykke's 24hr volume <$2Million, Binance's 24hr volume >$2Billion; 0.008% vs 8% of total 24hr volume (CMC). Binance offers 1000x the volume but still we wait expectantly for greater things from Lykke! We have waited and waited for a reliable app, a web terminal, new coins, higher deposit limits, liquidity, crypto debit cards and the list goes on.
Dear Lykke, the 30th of January, 2018 marks the day our hopes were dashed - "Important update! Starting from Feb 7, 2018, Lykke will apply a new fees and limits policy." -
No fees truly was amazing - too good to be true in fact. Thousands of dollars in Mastercard / Visa / Skrill transactions at 0%! The ability to withdraw $5 of BTC while Lykke paid $20 in blockchain fees! Sustainable? I suppose not. But Lykke: probably >90% of your support base is here for the no fees arrangement. Cancel the arrangement and we can all predict what will happen to Lykke's volumes.
Any reasonable trader accepts that their are fees involved in depositing, withdrawing and trading fiat and crypto. A trader should expect the actual costs to be passed on as a worse case scenario. (For those who are unaware it is a norm amongst retail forex brokers to charge zero fees on deposits and insignificant fees on withdrawals including Mastercard / Visa / Skrill etc.)
To the point...
Is Lykke intending to profit from the fiat deposit fees outlined in the notice?
Context: Other Crypto exchanges that process Mastercard and Visa deposits start from rates as low as 2% while their coin prices remain at parity with major exchange averages. Skrill processes at 1.90% + EUR 0.29 to my knowledge. Skrill wallet to wallet transfers are charged at a rate of 1.45% (free for VIP Silver and up.) EMI's process Mastercard / Visa deposits at 0%-1%. A small retailer in Africa can get a card processing fee of 2.75%.
Is Lykke intending to profit from the crypto withdrawal fees outlined in the notice?
Context: At the time of writing this response a standard (2 input 2 output) BTC transaction, with a blockchain fee of 0.00067320BTC (180sat/byte), would very likely be confirmed within the next block. Lightning Network is now a reality. Batched withdrawals are possible - fees can be shared (transaction volume required).
With a particular reference to fiat deposits why is the no fees model no longer viable if it was viable at the outset?
Context: higher (than 2016) BTC blockchain fees justifies the change in policy regarding BTC withdrawals but has no direct bearing on fiat deposits.
How does Lykke intend to retain traders once the fees as per the notice are instituted?
Context: Scenario 1. A total premium of 10+% on mainstream crypto prices becomes a reality on Lykke's exchange when taking new fees and price disparity into consideration and buyers run. Scenario 2. Sellers on Lykke's exchange are forced to sell at mainstream crypto prices for buyers to get the value they are used to currently hence no 'arbitrage' opportunity and sellers run. Scenario 3. New premium settles somewhere between scenario 1. & 2. and finds favour with remaining buyers and sellers on the Lykke exchange until they eventually learn about more favourable conditions elsewhere and move off. 99.992% of the market have decided to trade elsewhere even with the current no fees offering.
In conclusion we understand very well that Lykke intends to go beyond the average crypto exchange offering and are by no means being short sighted. We understand that there are fees related to trading that need to be paid. To go from fee-free to what appears to be marked up rates does not comply with the vision of the Lykke we know - is the vision changing?

In response to : Are you embarrased to be trading for a living ?

Refer : http://www.reddit.com/Forex/comments/2vrhgo/a_question_for_fulltime_homebased_forex_traders/
NO, you should not be embarrased to be trading for a living.
He is talking as if you have a choice between trading and burger flipping. Not everyone makes money by trading. Its approximately a 0 sum game. Almost all traders loose money in the market and go back to burger flipping. Those who stay for 30 years are very very few.
I think Wolf of the Wallstreet gives a very wrong Impression. Those guys in the movie are not traders, they were brokers.
Traders have to work hard and are very disciplined, and yes they do help in discovering the price.
You think the trader who sits in the bank can manipulate by trading 10 billion dollars. NO, he can't because he needs to get out of the market too. The quotes that you see on your screen have market depth of only a few million dollars. If you open a trade in billions, it will move the market. And if he guesses the market wrong he will loose money too. You will be surprised how evenly balanced the game is, big boys don't make money just because they have the big money.
You are contributing by placing the right trades. Think about it :
When a trader places the trade market moves, but by how much? Idk, but it moves differently at different prices. If you buy in bullish sentiment the market will rally with you. If you sell in bullish sentiment it will just eat your trade like a biscuit. Are you getting the Idea.
If big fish buys at the wrong time, the market will move less in his favor. But if that bitch realises she is wrong, and then tries getting out at wrong time, the market will move like crazy against it. The Big fish will loose money.
As you can see the smart small traders are playing a role by buying at the right places. It does not matterhow much you trade. What matters is the amount of money you make. The more money you make, more you contribute. Ofcourse its easier to make more money if you have more already. But then again you did not get that trading capital in charity. You started by flipping burgers and saved every penny. And you are risking that hard earned money for your trades. Note the word risk, its not like you are just getting paid for talking shit about the markets and all.
Also HFT's are mostly used for doing "burger fliiping type tasks of trading" like arbitrage ( where speed matters). You are stupid of you think billions of dollars of trades can be entered and exited in fraction of seconds.
I know where this question is coming from : you want to know what you are contributing to the society for which you are getting paid. This is a valid question, When I work for someone, I ask myself If I am creating enough value for my employer.
Yes you are creating value if you are making money, as a trader your job is to make money.
Read Market Wizards and try to earse that Wolf of Wallstreet picture of traders from mind.
Disclaimer : I am still flipping burgers. But I read and spend time thinking on forex everyday. I do not trade because I do not have risk capital, I am 22 and still creating a safety net.

Forex Arbitrage Newbie questions

Hi, I have a few questions with Forex arbitrage before investing any time in learning or doing more:
1) Is finding multiple leg opportunities feasible? i.e. instead or arbing A-B B-C C-A, is A-B B-C C-D D-E E-A feasible, for example?
2) Can you put all or nothing trades with such combinations on platforms such as Interactive Brokers?
3) If so, is there any risk?
4) Is the reality that they will never fill if you can put such orders on?
I realize this is a green question, but if someone could educate me on the reality of forex arbitrage, I'd appreciate any experiences.
